  • Up's&Downs of shed hunting

I just enjoy being outside. Truthfully, I have been shed hunting for 4 years and have NEVER found a shed. I think I am just bad at it... i guess. One time I found a skull of a spike, so that was kind of cool but i have never found a real shed. I haven't let that stop me in the springs past, and it won't stop me in the springs to come. This spring I found lots of wild turkey signs and even saw a few birds. 2 good friends and I just spend the afternoon hiking up and down a mountainside i have permission to hunt. I enjoyed it for the time spent with friends. I think the fact that I haven't found one is going to make it even more sweet when I finally do find one. I don't care if it is from a little 4 point, I will be so excited. Just looking forward to that moment keeps me going out every spring.

I dont know if I would sell something like that. If I found it, then to me it would be worth more than money. That's just me though. Congratulations on the find!
  • Any Suggestion

When we have turtle problems in our ponds we just sit on the bank with a .22 rifle and shoot them. If we are lucky we get them while they are sunning on the bank but once the shots start flying they retreat to the water. When they are in the water we just wait for them to surface their heads then try to pop them. Its pretty good target practice. You do need to be careful that there are no buildings or roads behind the pond because .22 rounds are light and like to ricochet back into the air. The best thing would be to have a long field or some trees on the opposite side. If you hit them in the body, most of the time they will sink in the pond because their air pocket is popped so they cannot float to the top. This is also a great thing to do with kids. It works on accuracy and it is fun. It is like a double bonus, they learn and have fun and you get rid of your turtles. If you want you may be able to take the ones that you shoot on the bank and get the meat out of them. This is how we deal with our turtles, does anybody have any other ways?
  • Best deer rifle?

I am beyond happy with my Browning A-Bolt .30-06. I have been hunting with it for a few years and have never had any trouble at all. I have friends who use .270's and they really like them too. But for me it is .30-06 All the Way.
