  • The Lucky 13th
    6

Fifty-three hours. That’s how long I sat on a plastic deck chair inside a 4-by-4-foot ground blind, looking over the same 40 acres of Saskatchewan woods before I finally killed a buck on Friday.

This hunt for a big Canadian buck was the toughest hunting challenge of my life, and I hardly moved a muscle. Mentally straining, psychologically crushing, I sat in the same seat—actually two, since I moved blinds after the first two days in the field—for 12 hours a day straining to see a bruiser buck step out of the poplar forest.

Glad ya' did'nt freeze to death in " The Great White North" !

  • Guns N' Grosses: Arms makers ball back from 'Obama Surge'
    5

Bill Alpert writes in The Wall Street Journal that, "Gun fanciers have loaded up on 15-round pistols and military-style rifles since the November election of a Democratic Congress and a president partial to gun control.

"The fear of a renewed federal ban on assault weapons has boosted the revenues and shares of gun makers Smith & Wesson Holding and Sturm, Ruger.

Just kind of let's em' know where they "really" stand huh?

  • Mayors take aim on loosened gun laws
    1

Win or lose, the constitutional challenges to local gun laws in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and other Pennsylvania communities appear to be helping build grassroots pressure on Harrisburg lawmakers to follow New Jersey's lead and enact tougher statewide gun-control measures.

Even as the latest court ruling dealt a blow to Philadelphia's 2008 gun laws, Lancaster became the eighth town to enact its own requirement that owners must report lost or stolen weapons.

Trying any way they can to get around what SCOUS has said IS the law huh?

  • Kentucky: Guns at church event draws big crowd
    3

A southwest Jefferson County church opened its doors to guns as the pastor makes a point about the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

At the New Bethel Church, Reverend Ken Pagano said the church is celebrating the independence and freedom provided by the constitution by raising awareness about being a safe and responsible gun owner.

Pagano said he felt he had a duty to teach that to his community and congregation. He decided to do so by allowing everyone to carry guns into the church.

Nice to see at least once church is "with" us.

  • Abraham Lincoln And 'Assault Weapons'
    14

On an August afternoon in 1863, Christopher Spencer made his way to the White House with a rifle in hand.

The gun he was carrying, and which he had invented, was significantly different from traditional rifles of the time that could only be fired once before having to be reloaded. The new Spencer Repeating rifle could be loaded with seven cartridges in a tubular magazine and featured a lever under the trigger. When the lever was pushed down and then brought back up, the spent casing of the round that was fired was ejected and a new round was automatically fed into the chamber.

Did'nt they say somting like, "Spencer rifles, load em' on Sunday and shhot all week." Where's pol's like "Honest Abe" when we need them ?

  • Celebrity Deaths And The Outdoors

Starting with the bizarre death of former Kung Fu star David Carradine in Thailand of all places, the Grim Reaper seems to have been working overtime among the celebrity ranks in the past weeks. Following Carradine, came pre-eminent sidekick and “Heeeerrrreee’s Johnny!!!” announcer, Ed McMahon who was last publicly seen this year hocking his gold for cash in a Super Bowl commercial.

To stumpfatc : I am sorry for your loss. I never met the man but I was in N/O once and saw the Krewe of Wrecks. He'll be missed by all there. As with Mr. Newsom, "He" just went ahead to do some "scouting" for the rest of us. May GOD bless and keep them, till we all get together again.

  • Bambicide

The quiet Euclid, Ohio, widow who kept mostly to herself said she was “a giving person” and “a loving person” when confronted by a WKYC reporter earlier this week. Well, she certainly gave it to a Bambi-sized fawn she discovered hiding in her flower bed recently.

The widow, Dorothy Richardson, allegedly beat to death the 25-pound fawn with a garden shovel after spotting it cowering among her bushes and then stuffed it’s carcass in a cardboard box and placed it at the curb for a trip to the local landfill. Yikes! Joe Pesci never had it so bad in any of his roles as a wise-cracking mobster.

I hope they give this "POACHER" what she deserves.

  • Dillinger Gun Auction
    4

As a direct result of the resurgent interest in 1930s bank robber John Dillinger with the July 1 release of the blockbuster movie “Public Enemies,” a pair of firearms inextricably linked to the Depression-era bad guy will be auctioned in coming days.

Definatly a "museum piece", somone with more money than sense will probably buy it though. Never heard that about the .41 before, Do I need to re-think my whole " cause' they don't make a .46 " idea.(LOL).

  • Come On In!
    11

Hi. Come on in. Set your gun in the rack and pull up a chair. Get comfortable. We have a lot to talk about.

I think you’ll find it’s a pretty lively place. You’re going to agree some of the time. You’re going to get mad some of the time, and hopefully you’ll learn a thing or two along the way just as I hope you contribute to our discussions.

Welcome to you Mr. McKean(From one "Ozark Boy" to another). I'll take a recliner to start(gettin' old), I may try out the ol' "soap box" later if I get to feelin' "roudy". Look forward to hearing more from you. No kids of my own, but do have 8 kids of my two brothers, 2 step-sons, and 3 Grand-kids(Newest is just about to turn two months old.
