Mostly right vthunter, except the .22 has probably killed more deer/other animals than anything on the planet. Everywhere from Africa to Alaska(including Grizz.).
Love that 94 though.
You'll be fine with out a guide. I'd suggest "hiking in deep", and early and let the other hunters push the elk to you.
Again Good luck and good hunting.
Oh +1 for you hammer360, GOOD advice. Well done.
I was a "gude" for a couple of years in Colo. so I'll do what I can for you.
First off, "Welcome to the family".
Now I'd suggest 60+ for your draw weight, you'll need all the penatration you can get. They have THICK skin, and HEAVY bones.
As your "new" to the game. Stick with "fixed" for now. I do have some buddy's that use "mech." and love them , but they've been "shooting" for year's.
Tip's- 1) PRACTICE ! PRACTICE ! PRACTICE !
2) Use cover scent/attraction scent(NOT ON YOU !/DANGEROUS)
3)Use camo that "matches" terrain( I like 3-D kind).
4)Use "Bugle" to locate only, sneak in "cow calling".
Now for my question. Where are you hunting?
Good luck and good hunting. Take pics, for us that can't go this year O.K.
Heard/seen them(never had to wear one). You got your lic. on you that should be all you'd need as far as I'm concerned.
Ya can't eat horns. I try to take a limit of doe's when I can.
Saw a bumper sticker today that said
" I'll keep my Freedom,Guns,and Money.
You keep the Change".
Nuf' said ?
To Mr Cooley: .338 RUM for whitetail deer ? Little much don't you think ?
I had a buddy that was a "bear guide" in Ak. before he was killed by a bear( that was shot with a 405 Win. by the way).
He told me that the .300 Win's kill more animals up there than all the .338's and up combined. I use a .300 Win. Browning A-Bolt for everthing I've chased here in North America short of Griz. and have NEVER had a problem.
I've used the .308 partition(308/.300 Win Mag) for deer and elk and won't buy "premium" OTC ammo when I can reload what "I" like.
I also like the Serria "Game King" as well.
Might be an idea. I'll contact your e-mail and discuss with you.
Interesting idea Charlie elk .
