shed hunting or ice fishing, take your pick to beat cabin fever. I personally ice fish because it puts more meat in the freezer then shed hunting.
It's all about the situation, generally i hang up at least 15 feet just to be safe and to get the best scent advantage i can get.

rapala husky jerk in the smallest size, tackles anything from panfish to bass or brown trout
fly fishing on open streams where i dont have to deal with brush on the back cast...spin fishing gear on stocked fish for most hookups
fish weightless night crawlers as its getting dark, or do the same with small minnows...if not weightless....position your split shot 2-3 feet awway from the bait to fool heavy pressured fish
