it's a blast!
Better question...doesn't anyone like to clean their truck after mudding?
trying to get this going again....
americanhunter.org (magazine you can get through NRA membership)
mikehanback.com (one of my favorites, bc mike is a VA guy; he also has quite a lot of articles out there in outdoorlife and americanhunter.)
i second the chicory plus from w-institute, not to put a plug in for those guys but they are very informative when you call. turnips have always done well. spread some fertilizer around some of your larger acorn producing trees. game departments are also great, and sometimes offer products at no costs.
good board...i was just thinking about this the other day...i do however enjoy outdoorlife more than most (mostly bc Hanback is from VA, and I can relate to a lot of his input here)
deeranddeerhunting.com has pretty good forums although they are pretty well focused on Michigan and bowhunting.
buckmanager.com is an entertaining site (showed trail cam photos of mountain lion taking a nice buck)
scent blocker boots might as well have been made for hunting fashion shows when compared to rubber boots (unless of course they came out with a rubber boot of their own...but then, it's just rubber)
Passionate subject for sure, I however find myself somewhere in the middle of the debate. Growing up in south-central VA, dog hunting has always been a part of my life. I understand the passion, and sympathize with the scrutiny of the sport tremendously. On the otherhand, as a land owner it can be difficult to manage a deer population when other hunters are accessing your land by pushing their hounds through it. I support a local dog hunting alliance, VAHDA, through a friend that is a member, but it doesn't mean I won't lend an ear to a fellow land owner that has grown frustrated. I don't know that we will ever have a happy medium on this topic, but we should as hunters try to get along. As dog hunters, we need to restore our image and confront the few rotten eggs in the bunch. As non-dog hunters, we need to realize that regulating how and when people hunt doesn't always stop where you want it to...
Another good blog, and I surprised not to see more comments. I belong to a club that leases several thousand acres that happen to fall next to a small municapl airport. For some reason, a good number of bucks have always been taken within the 1 mile closest to the runway (if only we could get in the head of these mature bucks). Anyways, as of recently our deer numbers are down and especially our larger bucks due to the town mayor putting together a group of law enforcement and town employee nightime slaughter in and around the runway. The mass shootings are supposed to be held secretly, but the town police given this privaledge seldom keep their mouths zipped. Our hunting group has suggested funding a larger fence along the runway, so that our mature bucks are at least safe during 'nocturnal mode,' as they should be.
