  • Crabzilla
    11

It’s being hailed as the biggest crab Great Britain’s ever seen.

The press has dubbed it “Crabzilla.”

Those uppity Latin-speaking scientists refer to it as Macrocheira kaempferi

The Japanese would normally call it dinner.

BIG @$$ CRAB! I cant eat sea food myself makes me sick for some strange reason. As for the "brits" all I have to say is "LADY GAGA" LOL!!

I know this blog occasionally sounds like it should be renamed Wolf Hunting with Andrew McKean. If it’s a bit too wolf-heavy for you, my apologies. We’ll get to other discussions soon.

But there is no greater topic that affects all aspects of hunting in the West right now than wolves. Not habitat issues. Not access. Wolves have polarized the public. They have challenged wildlife managers. And they have galvanized hunters.

I think wolves are some what of a problem in my area but they dont harvest close to the amount of animals as poaches harvest. I'm sure its the same evrey where else in America we somehow forget the hunters true enemy is the poacher why because poachers like to think of there selves as a hunter & they even dress like a hunter. They go on making bad names for hunters all across this nation (have you ever asked a farmer for permission to hunt his land right after he had a episode with a poacher) most the time they get away & in the mind of a offended land owner we all look like poachers. "The wolf is in sheeps clothing" really is "The wolf is dressed in hunters clothing" I guess I would be happy if the poacher was on the endangered list wouldn't that be great!!!djh

  • Tree Stand Tragedy

Travis, I'm more of a run & guner then treestand hunter. I did have a bad experience once climbing down the tree you know the screw in steps that screw right into the tree. Well I was about 13 feet from the bottom & all my weight on my lower leg when the step comes out the tree & I was lucky enuff to have my hands arouns the thick tree so I slide down it like it was a big fire pole. I landed on my feet but my hands wher skinned up like crazy. Had to stand there & think wow I just had close call I should be laying here in a world of hurt.

We all lose when a fellow hunter passes on! safety first sounds good but at times your mind blocks out all that important stuff when your not feeling comfortable about your hunt our yourself. Stay focus truly the most important thing is making it home in one peace so we can hunt again!

  • The Cowboy Code
    17

On Wednesday, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal signed legislation adopting an official Wyoming state code based on the tenets known in the West as “Cowboy Ethics.”

Although the historic Code of the West was unwritten, cowboys, trappers, hunters and others in the U.S. frontier knew it was about maintaining honesty, integrity and courage in a wide-open region where the affects of government barely reached and laws were not always enforced.

Flatbed, what would this nation do if it had a higher intelligent beings send small groups at a time to trade there knowledge & out of world tools to american government to gain there trust plus have there landing ports for more of there kind to come. Then when they start getting to many they must make more living space so since America has no galaxy papers to prove there ownership of land well then its ok. You dont belive what we belive so you need to go to the re-education camps so you will civilized & advance as us...sounds crazy but ask a native how fast crazy can turn to truth. sry this has nothing about cowboys but its good for the mind to explore different thoughts from time to time.djh

Flatbed, I'm sure the true cowboys thought the same as I did about hollywoods version of how history played out & how they portrayed other races back then. Me & friends would laugh at these movies but it taught me a movie is made from someones point of view not the truth. What made me laugh "besides indians being able to throw a spear 2 miles" was how they showed the cowboy out numbered & surrounded by thousands of indians. The truth is it was the other way around but thats hollywood & i dont hold it against anyone I'm glad most are smart enuff now to see what is & what isn't.

Remember your greatest and most miserable days afield? Our editors sure do!

I'm going to try & get a shot off at least I tell my dad now Its complete silence & still nothing I come to terms with my death at this point "please god let me get a shot off at least". After a long couple of minutes unharmed I realise what ever it is its just sitting there watching me. Well I'm not going to stand here so I take a couple of steps & fall backwards making sure my gun stayed pointed in the same direction. Go ahead dad if you here me shoot well you know. I fell backwards for about a 100 yrds when I realised that what ever it was should of made a move by now. I keep working forward praying I dont get ambushed for another 5 hundred yards when I hear my dad yell TREELINE WE ARE AT THE BOTTOM! We made it to the back of the lake to a stream we both get down to take a drink with one eye on our back trail. Dad says "What was that" I dont know dad but it had me dead to rights & chose not to lets get the $%#@ out of here dad. Nothing is worse the the feeling of helplessness I'm glad I wasent lunch!!!!!!

As I was standing there thinking I wish I didn't drink the last of my water a hour ago listing to my dad leading the way falling. How much more do we got to take! I take a couple of steps fall but this time a crazy thought came to mind "ahhh it feels good to lay here I could just fall asleep its really not that cold" I just closed my eyes when about 10 feet away from there was a loud "SNAP" something was so big it snaped one of these green huge alder branches & its only feet away. I jump to my feet load a fast shell point it in the pitch black the feeling of complete helplessness sets in I dont even know what I'm aming at. I turn to listing for movement but all I could hear was my dad falling about 15 feet ahead of me. I felt any time now something will be knocking me off my feet I will lose my gun in the process & then pain. Few long seconds still nothing I yell DAD I hear him stop "what" My guns loaded there is something big right behind us I mean feet from me!"NO %@$#" yeah dad no @$%#. prt2

Some times there is slim line between brave & beyond crazy. Me & my dad was hunting mountain goats at a local peek. Nice goat packed up ready for the hike out my dad has the meat I have the hide its almost dark. So we hit the top of the tree line when we turn on our flashlights neither one works oh no! There was griz scat all the way up the trail on the way up now its pitch black in earley winter!I was in good shape but the test of making it home that night was extreme. The alder was so tall & thick it got to the point of evrey step we was falling. Get up fall down over & over to the point of madness we knew we just needed to keep droping out. After 3 hours of this I knew we had to be close I hoped... we was like fish out of water gasping for its last breath. just then the thought of us being bloody & having fresh meat & hide on our backs & falling leaving a trail like we was a wounded animal in GRIZ heaven wasent to great.pt1

  • World's Coolest Buck Mount?
    7

Are you like me? I’m always on the lookout for something a bit different in the taxidermy arena. I’m actually pretty conservative in the number of mounts in my home, but every few years I’m lucky enough to land a buck I feel deserves a location on my wall. My current craving is for pedestal wall mounts and companies like McKenzie Taxidermy Supply are doing a great job of providing new angles, twists and character throughout the lineup of their forms. Looking through their catalog or website is like kid wandering around a Toys R Us store. Something exciting is around every corner.

    thats is awesome!
