i agree the 06 is great i have used it on whietails muleys elk moose and coyotes and its is wicked. i use a barnes tipped triple shock handload in 150 grains i dropped all of the animals mentioned before with one shot this year.

this year i was drawn for my first ever moose hunt. complete success. all the vitals are the same as a whitey just in bigger proportions as they are a biigger animal. i used my 30-06 with 150 grain bullets. one shot and the moose tipped over without taking a step. i think shot placement is just more important than anything.

part of hunting isnt just shooting its always good to rifle hunt as it gives you great experience and practice for such things as bowhunting. i would do both as to get you possibly more time in the field depending where you are, and you will learn twice as much. p.s.e Hoyt Mathews Alpine Archery Darton Bear and lots of other companies makes great bows for a not bad price.
your an idiot you know the answer would be a definite no. this is a hunting and fishing website. you wouldnt be getting answers such as hunting should be outlawed on a website such as this

well almost ammunition has copper on it. barnes bullets used to leave lots of copper reisude but now they dont as they have the rings on them(that also reduces pressure). but if you have a bullet with lots of copper fouling you can get special liquids and cleaners that remove the copper and keep the bore of your rifle clean

yes you can easily take down an elk witha 30-30 but only under good circumstances range the shot placement will greatly affect this but with a good shot and the distance being around 100 yards i would not be afraid to shoot an elk

i have a 30-06 and i love it. its a really cheap savage rifle the 111fcns it came with a scope and was really cheap about 500 in canada. it kills elk deer and i would have to say lots of the animals in north america. a 270 .308 or somethings along the lines of that owuld be plenty enough to kill elk deer and most animals
from jdavila11 on 10.06.09

i would also get a savage as you can get packages in your choice of calibers that include scope sling rifle and clip for just around 500 bucks and the scope is a 3-9 so it has more than enough vairation of magnifictain for whatever you will be hunting in

No in canada you do not NEED these types of guns but lots of people use them. i find them to be maintenace free and in most cases lighter. wooden stocks and blued barrels are also pretty maintenace free but say if you put your stainless away for lets say 6 months you could come back to it having rust. also lots of poeple like the looks of stainless synthetic guns as well

arc distance is the measure of how your bullet or arrow reacts when your shooting at steep up or down angles. the arc feature in some rangefinders make it easy to shoot up hill or downhill because it tells you where your bullet or arrow should be aimed to hit its mark. bullets and arrows dont need to be aimed as high when your shooting steep up or down

you could try using differnet rings. is the objective 42 or 50 if 42 you cant mount lower but if thats not the problem and your scope is just not going down then you may have a problem
my uncle taught me by not letting me see whether he put in an empty or a full cartridge. this meant thata i would not know if my gun would shoot and it was vry weird when it didnt but greatly helped me. also try using a lead sled or a another recoil reducer such as reduced loads or muzzlebreaks.

a lot of hunters use differnet calibers for differnet types of hunting. while the 30-06 is agreat cartridge (its the only guni hunt with as well) it is the nest best for some types of hunting. some guys like intensely flat shooting guns for shooting game 400 yards where some like bigger for more power and some guys use smaller guns in places where there are only coyotes and whitetails. the 30-06 does all of these just fine but some guys want a gun made for what they want to do with it

i side with the 30-06 you can go from 110 tto 220 grain bullets and it will kill anything in north america. so will the .270 but i just prefer being able to shoot heavier bullets if i want to. i shoot barnes tipped triple shock handloads and they are going just at 3000 fps. it will kill anything anything i point it at.

i have shot three elk so far with my 30-06 and it does just fine i would feel comfortable shootinng any bull with it. if you hand load u can come up with some pretty wicked loads but if you dont federal remington winchester hornady and nosler all have nice factory loads for it in alot of grains like 150 165 or 180. i use 150 barnes tipped triple shock and have them going at 3000 fps.
i dont know what the best is but i have very good luck with primos brand elk calls i like the imaka da bull crazy and the hot lips cow talkers they really seem to rattle bulls up and stop em in there tracks if they start to run.
also check tomake sure the scope is not contacting the barrel
