KANSAS

Deer Forecast 2002

Outdoor Life Online Editor

Of the 100,000 Kansas whitetails killed last fall, only 29,000 were antlered deer. "We attempt to manage our population while maintaining our age structure," says biologist Lloyd Fox. Nonresidents unsuccessful in the spring drawing for buck tags "have ample opportunity for antlerless deer," Fox adds. Game tags and antlerless licenses are abundant and cheap at $10.50 and $55.50, respectively. Mule deer numbers have declined slightly in the prime western counties.
