“Whitetail densities remain highest in the northern third of the state,” says wildlife research supervisor Mike Shaw. “That’s where antlerless quotas will be most liberal.” For a crack at a public-land trophy, Shaw points to the southeast, where the Ouachita National Forest, two WMAs and timber-company holdings create more than a million acres of public ground.
