Focus on the Blue Mountains around Eagle Cap Wilderness and the Malheur National Forest south of John Day for big mule deer bucks and all-around good numbers. Key in on water sources. For blacktails, look to the Siskiyou National Forest west of Grants Pass and the upper Umpqua River forks just south of the Calapooya Mountains. Blacktail deer populations have declined somewhat.
