The President Wants to Sell Your National Forest
Bush's budget would sell public land to raise $1 billion over 5 years.
Greenies and pro-hunting conservation groups alike are in a snit over a proposal in President Bush’s FY 2007 budget that would sell off public lands to raise $1 billion over 5 years.
This would include auctioning off some 200,000 acres of Forest Service land to raise $800 million. The money would be used to build and improve roads and schools in rural areas hurt by declines in timber sales due to new federal policy that restricts logging to protect endangered species.
