“If results from last year are any indication, Orangeburg, Kershaw, Aiken and Oconee counties are likely the top areas for quality bucks,” says John Ruth, deer leader for the South Carolina Wildlife Department.

As for harvest numbers, counties including Bamberg and Allendale in the coastal plain, and Chester, Union, Newberry and Abbeville in the Piedmont, are extraordinary. Each of these counties yielded harvests in excess of 25 deer per square mile in 2001.
