Although West Texas is still in a prolonged drought, and South Texas is pretty dry, all other conditions statewide should result in an average fawn crop. With much of Texas being “dry country,” major fluctuations in deer density are not surprising. However, the best guess is that the harvest will be up this year. An experimental antler restriction in six counties between Austin and Houston has been implemented this year. A legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler or at least six points on one side or a minimum inside spread of 13 inches.
