The higher elevations of the Bighorn Mountains, flanks of the Wind River Range, the upper Hoback and the Wyoming Range have big muley buck potential, but fewer forkhorns. The Black Hills (Units 1, 2 and 3) should have good whitetail hunting on national forest lands. About 500,000 muleys and 50,000 whitetails live in Wyoming. Recent annual kills averaged 40,000 muleys and 8,000 whitetails.
