Hanback: Competitive Hunting Update

Last week, the World Hunting Association announced plans to start a competitive hunting tour where "hunters" would shoot deer with tranquilizers for prize money. Mike Hanback has been all over this issue at the Big Buck Zone. The latest: a letter from the WHA's CEO.

In An Open Letter to All Hunters dated June 12, WHA CEO David Farbman tries to pour water on the firestorm he has created with his concept to "hunt" deer competitively in pens with tranquilizer bows and guns. To me he just dumped gas on the flames in more than a few ways:

Farbman believes his pro hunt tour will have a positive impact on conservation, including aging deer, vaccinating them against disease and other "valuable scientific impacts." Licensed veterinarians will do blood work on the bucks and mark them so they will not be shot twice in a competition.
