In New Hampshire ice anglers will have to worry about the cold, thin ice and now a super-nosed Labrador that specializes in sniffing out poachers. The dog is trained to bark when he catches the scent of a fish. An officer then inspects the catch to determine if it is illegal.

According to police officials the K-9 cop will be searching areas that a fisherman would try to hide suspect fish and that includes coolers, bags and ice-fishing houses. Fish that don’t meet size minimums, too many fish or illegal types (such as salmon) could result in a fine.

The dog will be put to work at ice fishing derbies primarily, until the spring when waters thaw.
