Dog Trained to Bust Poachers

The black lab will be used at ice fishing tournaments

In New Hampshire ice anglers will have to worry about the cold, thin ice and now a super-nosed Labrador that specializes in sniffing out poachers. The dog is trained to bark when he catches the scent of a fish. An officer then inspects the catch to determine if it is illegal.

According to police officials the K-9 cop will be searching areas that a fisherman would try to hide suspect fish and that includes coolers, bags and ice-fishing houses. Fish that don't meet size minimums, too many fish or illegal types (such as salmon) could result in a fine.

The dog will be put to work at ice fishing derbies primarily, until the spring when waters thaw.
