I’m thinking about renaming Chasing Spring to Chasing Storms. We arrived in EL Dorado for the Kansas Governor’s One Shot turkey hunt in a down pour of rain, hail and high winds.

But it was such a fun event with old friends, new friends, banquets, fundraisers and auctions that the weather didn’t really matter much anyway (see the video here).

Our morning began with a 4:00 a.m. breakfast that consisted of good food, hot coffee and some great storytelling.

This year was a little different than last. This time I’m hunting as a celebrity guest and had an opportunity to take a turkey for Chasing Spring.

I made the best of the opportunity with the help of my guide, Steve Seymour, who did a tremendous job of scouting preparation.

Rain, wind and hail couldn’t dampen our spirits and by the end of the event everyone was more family than friends.

The Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, was on the hunt and so was Country music star Brian White, who has more than six number 1 songs on the country charts. Eighty hunters in all braved the elements during this awesome event, including the high school essay winner from the NWTF essay contest. I can’t believe it’s already over. Next, Chasing Spring is headed for battle with Missouri gobblers.
