When shooting anything that has sights (from a rifle to a compound bow) you will shoot better and more accurately if using your dominant eye. Unfortunately many of us (myself included) have dominant eyes that are opposite our dominant hands. Switching from your dominant hand to your weak hand and strong eye can feel really awkward at first, but this will yield good results if you stick with it. Children especially should learn to shoot using their dominant eye; it will help them avoid future problems if they start off right. Here’s how to determine which eye is dominant.

## Author
Aram von Benedikt is one of *Outdoor Life’s* western writers. He has no formal credentials as a writer, only the authenticism born of a life spent in the backcountry and a library of 3,000 books. Writing for *Outdoor Life* came as an unexpected blessing, and he’s still mildly surprised every time he sees his name in print. He lives on a remote Arizona desert ranch with his lovely wife, a handful of half-wild kids, a dozen horses, half-a-thousand cows, a plethora of cactus, and the occasional, big desert muley.
