The fish in this picture might only weigh 3 pounds 2 ounces and stretch the tape at just under 18 inches, but it’s a potential world record.
Beau McLaughlin of Virginia Beach caught this white perch while fishing at a private pond earlier this month. The fish has been certified as the new Virginia state record and could go down as the new world record.
The standing world record was was caught in New Jersey by Edward Tango in 1989 and weighed 3 pounds 1 ounce.
Now it’s up to the International Game Fish Association to review and accept or decline the catch.
