The Ultimate Flip-Flop: Freewaters Scamp

I'm usually a boot guy. Even in the dead of summer, I like knowing that my feet are protected at all times by a well-made pair of boots. But sometimes I just have to let my dogs breathe a little, and that's when I reach for a pair of flip-flops. I've gone through many pairs of flops over the years--some very good, some not so much. But this summer, I've found the most comfortable pair of flip-flops I've ever worn: the Freewaters Scamp ($36; freewaters.com).

If you can get by the fact that the company touts them as being vegan (typically I prefer a carnivorous sandal), you'll find that the footbed is unlike anything your feet have ever felt. That's because it's made from the same material found in some Therm-a-Rest sleeping pads. The squishy, wavy surface is like a spa for feet.

Beyond that, the soft nylon strap doesn't rub or dig into the top of your foot or between the toes, and the sponge rubber outsole is fairly grippy, even on wet docks and boat decks. Plus, you don't have to worry about the Scamp stealing your burger at the next cook out.
