Rigger's Bench: Tweak a Spinnerbait for Better Bass Bites

For fishermen, sometimes good isn't good enough. From the tinkerings of dissatisfied anglers come lure modifications that home in on very specific bites in very specific conditions. These alterations can turn a cold bite into a hot frenzy. So, tweak away.

The Bass Bumper

Rig It
Remove the spinnerbait blades and swivels from the split ring that attaches them to the wire harness. Add a HitchHiker-type screw lock to the split ring, then rig a curlytail grub to the screw lock.

Fish It
This is a great modification for clear water, as shiny blades may turn bass off. Cast to targets and bump the bait off laydowns and stumps. Play with grub color to dial in the bite.
