Fading Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has created a website that mocks Republican front-runner Mitt Romney’s position — or, positions — on the Second Amendment.

The site — www.RomneyGuns.com — launched Feb. 7. The Gingrich campaign charges that when Romney was the Governor of Massachusetts, he supported the Brady Bill, which mandated federal background checks on gun buyers, raised fees for Massachusetts gun owners, and supported tough gun laws in Massachusetts.
The site features Romney, in suit and tie, holding a gun and wearing a hunting cap. It ridicules a 2008 comment in which he initially claimed he was a “lifelong hunter” before revising that to “an occasional hunter of small varmints.”

Among claims on RomneyGuns.com:

  • Romney is a “lifelong member of the NRA … since 2006.”
  • Romney is an “advocate of the Clinton-Era Brady Bill.”
  • Romney “supports liberal Massachusetts’ tough gun laws.”
  • Romney “raised fees on Massachusetts gun owners.”
