As spring turkey hunting winds down across the U.S., spring black bear seasons are in full swing in the North Country. Week before last I travelled to High Level, Alberta, about 100 miles south of the Northwest Territories border, for the opening week of the bear season there. It was my first time hunting black bears, and I couldn’t have asked for a better outfitter than Wally Mack of W&L Guide Services to show me the ropes.

We saw a lot of bears, tested some great gear and learned a ton about hunting bears way up north. Starting today, and for the rest of the week, we’ll be rolling out videos, blog posts and photo galleries from my hunt. To kick things off, here’s a sort of highlight reel from my week at bear camp.
