Fire Starting: How to Make a Great Tinder Bundle

A good tinder bundle is necessary for starting a fire with flint and steel, bow or hand-drill, or when using almost any fire making technique other than a match or lighter.

In this video, I use juniper bark – readily gathered throughout much of the country. If juniper bark is not available there are many usable alternatives — inner bark of cottonwood, sagebrush bark, coconut husks, or jute twine from the hardware store. Just make sure that whatever you use is good and dry, and shredded into very fine fibers.
