Last year I did a gallery on my office in a safari tent in my backyard. I no longer have that office-I don’t want to talk about it-so I’ve been looking for another. As of today, my search is over.
One of this year’s Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts is a designer yurt. Referred to in the Christmas catalog as the “Dream Folly,” this yurt is said to have been inspired more by I Dream of Jeannie than by the traditional Mongolian tent. The custom tent is 18 feet in diameter, stands 12 1⁄2 feet tall, has a plexiglass door and dome, and is constructed of mixed-grain interior lattice system and a Sunbrella® exterior lining.
Inside are down-filled pillows by designer by Rebecca Vizard, linen wall coverings by Coleman Taylor Handpainted Textiles, and a handcrafted crystal chandelier from New Orleans-based Julie Neill Designs. Despite all this luxury there’s still room for my desk, laptop computer, and Yeti cooler full of beer.
I can’t imagine a better office! True, at $75,000 it’s a little pricy for an outdoor writer such as me but then $5,000 of that goes to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. How can I complain about that?
I wonder what mortgage rates are on yurts these days? I better call my banker to find out.
What do you think Outdoor Life readers? Is this the perfect office for me? Or would it make a better deer blind? Comment below!
