Welcome to Open Country, a program dedicated to helping you find and keep public access to the wide, wild world of hunting, fishing, and outdoors recreation.

Access to places to hunt and fish is routinely cited as the leading reason that people either do not continue their tradition of hunting and fishing, or don’t begin in the first place. It doesn’t have to be that way. Here at Open Country, we are helping people just like you create and retain access by working with local, state, and national organizations, fellow sportsmen and women, and agencies to open gates and make sure hunters and fishers are always welcome on our public land.

We also host a lively discussion here, about impediments to public access, and ways that we can increase the number of places where we can hunt and fish.

Volunteers are a special breed. They tirelessly give of themselves — and often it’s a thankless job. Well, we’d like to thank those who have made a difference for public lands and access. Just tell us who they are here.
