Short Work

Skibinski_image_2When Keneck Skibinkski of Little Falls, N.Y., hit the woods before flydown on the morning of May 9, little did he realize he was going to enjoy one of the best scenarios a turkey hunter can enjoy.

He had roosted the birds the evening before and was set up near a clearing where he expected they would fly down. They did. As soon as the gobbler in the group sailed from his perch, Skibinski yelped a few times to pull the tom into the open.

"The gobbler complied and walked about 10 feet to my left, then displayed and gobbled. When he came out of strut and stretched his neck to look, I shot him with my Remington 870," he says. The hunter was also using Winchester 3-inch magnum No. 5 turkey loads. Keneck had also topped his shotgun with a Leupold Gilmore Red Dot scope. The time of death: 5:55 a.m.

Skibinski_image_1The gobbler had an 8-inch beard, 1 3/16-inch spurs and weighed 20 pounds.

Keneck will be entered into our "Give Us The Bird" contest with prizes offered by Carry-Lite, Hunter's Specialties, Knight & Hale, Quaker Boy, Primos, Woodhaven Custom Calls and Woods Wise. For complete details and rules, click here.
