Three Days, Two Beards

Ray_imageEric Ray was on the final day of a three-day Idaho hunt when he missed a tom with his 16-gauge. Things were not looking good.

That afternoon, in a last ditch attempt to fill his tag, Eric waited out a thunderstorm then went out and set up his blind in area where he had seen turkeys moving through the day before. He wasn't there 30 minutes when three hens ran by him a mere 5-feet away.

"I was discouraged for about 20 seconds that none of them had been toms when I caught a glimpse of a bright white head sprinting up the draw right at me. As soon as I saw the beard, I fired and claimed my 21-pound Merriam's," Eric writes.

It was only after the bird was on the ground and his hunting partner walked over to the trophy that they noticed it had two beards, 9 inches and 7 1/2 inches. It had 1 1/8-inch spurs.

Eric will be entered into our "Give Us The Bird" contest with prizes offered by Carry-Lite, Hunter's Specialties, Knight & Hale, Quaker Boy, Primos, Woodhaven Custom Calls and Woods Wise. For complete details and rules, click here.
