Murphy_imageWith a little patience and a steady aim, any hunter can shoot a turkey. As most folks quickly discover as they become more obsessed with turkey hunting though, calling one in is the real trick.

Sumter, South Carolina’s Wesley Murphy, a veteran of several turkey kills, made that leap this past spring however, after he finally called in his first bird.

The 16-pound trophy boasted a 10-inch beard and 3/4-inch spurs. Having hunted portions of South Carolina for the seven years I lived there, I know those Palmetto State longbeards can be tough to work to the call, so Wesley should take great pride in this success.

Wesley will be entered into our “Give Us The Bird” contest with prizes offered by Carry-Lite, Hunter’s Specialties, Knight & Hale, Quaker Boy, Primos, Woodhaven Custom Calls and Woods Wise. For complete details and rules, click here.

The deadline is officially tonight (June 10), but as long as I have images in by the time I drag my sleepy self into the office in the morning, consider yourself in.
