North Carolina’s Darris Smith shared pictures of his young son, James, and the boy’s first bird that I posted back in early June, and the proud father sent me some additional pics to share some of his fortune with Strut Zone visitors as well.
Here are a pair of toms the elder Smith took this past season, the first weighing 20 pounds and sporting a 10 1/2-inch beard and 1-inch spurs.
The second longbeard was a pound shy of the first one and had a 10-inch beard and 1-inch spurs. Both trophies were killed on South Mountain in the Tar Heel state, which is beginning to enjoy a very healthy population of wild turkeys.
And of course, I couldn’t resist running another picture of a very happy James, celebrating his first turkey.
Great season guys. You’re both entered into our “Give Us The Bird” contest with prizes offered by Carry-Lite, Hunter’s Specialties, Knight & Hale, Quaker Boy, Primos, Woodhaven Custom Calls and Woods Wise. For complete details and rules, click here.
For you slackers who haven’t sent anything in yet, the deadline is tomorrow, July 10. In fact, I’ll do you one better: As long as it’s in my inbox by the time I get to work Tuesday, you’re included. So send us your pics.
