I have yet to receive a solid turkey hatch report from my hunting buddies in the Midwest, but the tragic flooding that has been making headlines all spring lead me to believe that the news will be bad. I had been optimistic about the poult hatch here in the Northeast, but I’m suddenly no longer sure.
I snapped these shots the other day. This big adult hen had just a single poult with her instead of the 9 or 10 I was hoping to see. When I inched a bit too close, the pair flushed, but regrouped shortly thereafter.
We’d love to hear some more reports from you fellow Strut Zoners. Have you been spotting many poults?—Gerry Bethge
