In the War on Mosquitos, man has employed countless armaments through the years, from repellent sprays and lotions to devices like Thermacells. If those solutions fall into the category of close-quarters weaponry, consider the Mosquito Magnet an Abrams tank.
According to the press release that crossed my desk today, “patented CounterFlow technology attracts mosquitoes and other biting insects by using propane to produce carbon dioxide that mimics human breath. Enhanced with regionally specific attractants that lure in different species of mosquitoes, the Mosquito Magnet Commander trap has been scientifically proven to significantly reduce mosquito populations.” Ok then!
You have to supply your own propane, but the device promises to provide a full acre of mosquito-free bliss. On top of that, you can wirelessly “monitor the trap’s status and fine-tune its performance” from a dashboard you upload to your laptop, tablet, or phone.
This sucker costs a cool $999, but can you really put a price on a mosquito-free summer? I’m going to try and get my hands on one and will report back once the skeeter invasion in the northeast starts anew.
