New Cartridges

.375 Ruger

Good For: Been dying to get the power of a .375 H&H in a short-action configuration? Neither were we, but now that it's here we're not sure how we lived without it. Sighted in 1.8 inches high at 100 yards, the 270-grain load drops only 8 inches at 300 yards while packing 2,786 ft./lb. of wallop. As our pals in Britain would say: Smashing!

Question Mark: You can purchase .375 H&H ammo around the globe--good for your peace of mind in case the bag your cartridges are stowed in is lost or stolen. The same cannot be said for the .375 Ruger.

.308 Marlin Express

Good For: Way back in, say, 2004, if you were to shoulder a lever gun at a buck standing 300 yards away and shoot, the deer would more likely die laughing than of a bullet through the vitals. Not anymore. Marlin's XLR rifles, introduced last year, have breathed new life into lever-actions by virtue of their outstanding accuracy when coupled with Hornady's flat-shooting LeverEvolution ammo. The .308 ME takes this concept one step further with .308 Winchester--type performance in a Marlin lever gun.

Question Mark: This cartridge is trying to succeed where the .307 Winchester failed. You remember the .307 Winchester, don't you?

IN THE WORKS: Thompson/Center has been working in conjunction with Hornady on a new cartridge. Early prototypes were dubbed the .30 T/C, in deference to the cartridge's .30-caliber diameter. Look for this new cartridge to be offered in a line of all-new Thompson/Center Icon bolt-action rifles.
