The “Best International Fly Tyer 2016” Shows Us His 10 Favorite Flies
Ten stunningly lifelike patterns by Barry Ord Clarke

Barry Ord Clarke, an English-born fly tyer, photographer, and writer, has won multiple awards for his exquisite fly tying, but probably none he is more proud of than the Claudio D’Angelo Award for Best International Fly Tyer 2016, which he won at this year’s SIM Fly Festival.
The festival, hosted by the Italian School of Fly Fishing (Scuola Italiana di Pesca a Mosca, or SIM) at Castel di Sangro in Italy’s Abruzzi region, takes place annually at the end of June, and welcomes fly fishermen and tyers of all skill levels. Participants can receive instruction in rod making, fly tying, and fly casting, and can even fish in a stretch of the Sangro river.
This gallery displays Barry Ord Clarke’s ten favorite flies, which he says are “all of [his] own creation and all proven fishing patterns for both fresh- and saltwater species.” You can visit his fly-tying blog for instructions on how to tie them, and tips for fishing them.
