Four Toms Photo by crosbychief Turkey season 2010 has been fun, tiring and frustrating- these four toms were at war over the hen in the background along a road on private land, not more than 1/4 of a mile from where we had set up earlier. If they weren’t grabbing each others necks and beaks they were busy strutting. The hen looked bored with the whole business, but did leave with the apparent victor after awhile. Method: Shotgun

It Happened Near the Car Photo by single shot We hit 3 different locations on the same property but didn’t hear a sound that morning. On our way back to the car we saw a tom and a group of hens right next to the first set up location we had that morning. I was able to Bushwack this Tom by sneaking up to within 50 yards and giving 2 loud clucks. He came over to investigate, and that made my morning. Where: Kansas

Head Shot Photo by colesimm The Tom reacted perfectly to our calls, he gobbled a couple times and then came right in to me. I had to wait until he raised his head up because he was in a little dip and I couldn’t see him very well. But when he stuck his head up, BANG! I shot him right in the head. The Tom had a beard that was 9in long, his spurs were about 1in long and he weighed about 20 pounds. Where: Oregon

My first, and It’s a Trophy! Photo by mccormick64 I took this large long beard with my brother in Hamliton county, IL on the second day of the first week of spring season (4/6/10). We had to get a tape measure out because the ruler on the back of my tag only went to 10 inches. The beard was 10.5 inches and he wieghed 23#, with worn down 3/4 inch spurs! My Remington SuperMag with 3 1/2 inch 5 shot at 35 yards, took him down! Where: Illinois

JD’s First Turkey Photo by calyncokeboy My son JD killed his first ever turkey on 04-03-10. It was his first time as the “trigger man” on a turkey hunt. The bird began gobbling about 6:40 AM but wouldn’t commit to our setup at first. We finally managed to wait him out and JD killed him with a single shot 20 gauge. The bird weighed 18 pounds, had a 10 1/2 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. Where: Arkansas

Snow Bird Photo by charlie elk Temp at zero, 18″ of snow, snowshoes were essential. Turkeys had no trouble seeing my approach they ran into the wood line then took to flight across the valley. I lay down in the snow where they had been feeding, snowshoes propped my head up, as the cold crept in; the hen responded to clucks & yelps. 1st winter turkey laying on a pearly white landscape – Priceless.
