When it comes to zombie guns there’s no middle ground. You either love ’em or hate ’em. And because I hate zombies, I love zombie guns. My top choice in a rifle for battling the undead is this AR from Lauer Custom Weaponry that includes an arrow launcher attached to the bottom rail and a blood-splattered DuraCoat finish. For a shotgun, I have a modified 870 with an extended magazine tube, adjustable Knoxx buttstock and a Surefire weapon light, and on my hip I carry a hi-cap .45 1911 from Para—the company’s Super Hawg model.
You can see more of these guns here along with write-ups on each.
In the spirit of competition, we’re asking for pictures of your zombie fighters. Send them to outdoorlife.contest@gmail.com and you might win a flashlight from Surefire—a handy tool you’re going to want during the next zombie invasion.
Don’t have a zombie fighting gun? No problem. Tell us what your ultimate zombie fighting guns are and post them in the comments below and you might still win a prize. The contest goes until Wednesday, March 31st.

Blaser S2 Safari Rifle,500/416
I am accepting the fact that I may not survive, but I am going to take as many out. . .with a firearm I could never truly afford
For the gun, I'd be slinging my Henry Big Boy lever-action in .357 magnum, because I would rather not have to get close enough to use a handgun, and the lever action would be fun posted up on a roof taking out one flesh-craving zombie at a time.
I'd either pick the ruger mini14 because I like the traditional rifle style, but it's still a carbine, or the High Point 9mm carbine, which has low recoil but plenty of stopping power with headshots. Unfortunately I cant find extended mags for the highpoint...
I'm thinking massive firepower... The GE M134 Volcan comes to mind or the GAU17 in 30 cal, of course since this is a crew served weapon my ammo bearer would have something in the M4 platform with a SOPMOD M240 his secondary would be a 1911 my secondary would also be a 1911. Of course when you're out hunting zombies it's always good to have more rather than less so why not strap on a couple of Mossbergs Tactical 500s kinda like insurance you know? Then again I'll take whatever you guys are giving away! Stay safe out there folks
Well,the first one i can think of is a .50 cal,M16,and a .22
So who won the Surefire flashlight? I'd kill for it...a zombie, that is.
If zombies attacked, I would try to get to my lever action marlin 22. There is virtually no recoil and is accurate. To kill a zombie you'll need a head shot and a .22 will get through a skull. I could easily throw a couple thousand rounds in a book bag and seek shelter much faster than if I had to lug around cases of .223 or .308 in the same quantity. An AR-15 or shotgun will work for a while, but how much ammo can you carry while zombies are chasing you.
Taking down a zombie requires you to remove the head, so you need some heavy firepower. Also, it's only fun if you're using common everyday things...so an AR-15 outfitted with a golfball launcher (check it out:http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR225-7.html) is the perfect weapon. Using .223 blanks, the golfball launcher allows you to blow out a zombie's brains with any of the random golfballs you have lying around the house. Fore!!!
Well, since we're talking scifi anyway... I'd definitely go with the Noisy Cricket. That's the little gun from Men In Black that packs the biggest bang. Clear a path through any hoard of Zombies.
i would keep it simple with a gun that has fairly common ammo and parts like a .223 of some kind, a 1911, and any 12 gauge i could lay my hands on. an ak-47 might be handy too because of how simple, relable, and useful it is.
assult rifle with a chainsaw @ base of barrel
"Kill the brain, kill the ghoul."..... Night of the Living Dead.
The above quote is taken from the first 'Living Dead' series of movies made in 1968: 'Night of the Living Dead'. A black and white film that is a cult classic.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Soooo..... Body shots are non-lethal on the Living Dead; but head shots or a heavy blow to the head are.
My weapons: Colt M4 HBAR with 100 round Beta mag for those exciting moments and Colt 20 round mags for carry..... all loaded with 55 grain hollow points. Browning 'Sweet 16' shotgun for a 'melon popper'. Pistol: Para-Ordance P18•9, mags and spare mags loaded with 115 grain hollow points. I would also be equipped with a SureFire M962 for lighting up those dark moments.
This doesn't fall under the gun category, but one other zombie neutralizer I would carry: Louisville Slugger... doesn't run out of bullets, doesn't have to be reloaded, and will put the hurt on the Living Dead..... cuz remember: Kill the brain, kill the ghoul.
My attire, my calling card, and logo on my weapons would be that of a Grim Reaper. Because when I'm done, the dead will stay dead. That's my guarantee or your life back..... by one of the Living Dead. Mooohahahaha!
========= "They're coming to get you, Barbra!" =========
Well my friends & I were watching Zombieland & Dawn of the Dead and had a discussion on how to survive this happening...lol Well we have a local Sporting Goods Store, catering to the Hunting and Fishing crowd, with only 1 main entrance. We take our families and everyone puts on a blaze orange hunting vest, so we know who the good guys are, if the first barricade is breached. the ladies and kids load and the men set up the defensive positions, with multiple fallback positions, the final being on top of the hunting & fishing diorama. Ultimately the favored weapon is anything you can get your hands on and a defensible location. Remember it's all about supplies & location location location. Besides that, have the following, a Cetme, AR, Mossberg 590, 9mm and a crossbow and compound bow. I'm just saying!!!
For me, I would use the AA-12 Automatic Shotgun. I might be mistaken, but, I think that this is the type of gun that used to be referred to by the South African security forces as the "street sweeper" because it was quite effective in crowd control situations.
The thig to remember about zombie killing is that they are already dead. You NEED knock down power. My primary weapon would be my .50 Beowulf AR-15 with 334gr HP ammo in a beta mag. My secondary would be a Springfield 1911 Operator .45 with a surefire light attached because as we know zombies love to hide in the dark. For those CQB situations I would keep my Remington 870 Express Tactical body slung on my back for easy access...
I second the AA12 and would add a special "spreader" choke that I've read special forces in Viet Nam used to hit VC and NVA barraks that would spread standard buckshot loads out horizontally to hit multiple targets within room dimension ranges (under 25 feet or so).
Two or more brainshots per trigger pull and AA12 capacity before reloading- works for me!
my zombie gun would have to be BETTY LOU, AK57, UZZIE, RADAR LAZER, TRIPLED BARRELED, DOUBLE SCOPED, HEAT SEEKING SHOTGUN, and then on the hip my old trusty classic smith and wesson .44 mag.
My current zombie fighting guns are really just secondary options. I'm running with the Zorg ZF-1 (when available): http://bit.ly/7L3jVe
Hey fellas, evidently we have not all read "world war Z" or "the zombie survival guide". Both beautifully written pieces by Max Brooks. He extensively outlines the ideal weaponry for such a situation. I for one would bring my 10/22 that is tricked out by tactical soulutions with a heavy barrel, mag release, and a hogue stock for easy gripping with blood soaked hands. Throw off the leupold for an eotech and get as many butler creek mags as possible-1000 or more! load them up with cci stingers and have my ruger charger as a backup. Of course.... The RRA ar-15 will serve as my "little farther out" zombie killer. But the lightweight .22 lr ammo will be awesome when it frags inside those dead heads!
calico 9mm carbine with a 100 round helical feed magazine. add a laser site and tactical light. since only headshots are effective on zombies, you don't need high powered guns. accuracy is paramount.
john b snow, You got my sons attention with this one your guess is better then mine how he knew your photo of the gun was a zombie gun from across the room. "Hey dad stop WOW zombie gun" was his words I'm not into the zombie culture wave myself Zombies, meth heads,PETA, congress whats the difference . I better have a seat with sea dog & Bo over in the corner.
MK-19 on top of an m1-a1 Abrams
This what Outdoor Life has come down to?
Shooting Zombies?
No wonder we are called "a bunch of trigger happy gun nuts".
but what the Hell!
I would consider my target; punching holes in a Zombie with a rifle or pistol bullet isn't going to do the job.
A flame thrower would be nice but just not practical. Give me a Large capacity 12 ga shotgun loaded with Dead Coyote by HeviShot; something that will remove hands, arms, legs, heads, etc
Happy shooting!
In the event that zombies are to come and take over I would have to choose a M249 SAW and a .50 cal Desert Eagle
Pancor Corporation Jackhammer, Desert Eagle, M1 Carbine
FN-FAL .308, with a massive light, and a plan to stay in open areas.
Have to go with an AR-15 platform with a case full of magpul mags. Also a Remington 870 with slugs. Last line of defense would be a Kimber 1911 with hp rounds.
If i had to survive zombie attacks, personally, a rifle as small as a .223 would not suffice me. I would strap a .454 Casull on each hip loaded w/ soft tip hollow points, i would throw a Mossburg Persuader loaded with nine 3" double ot shot on my back and my primary weapon would be an HK91 .308 with 30 round clip. That would just about do it. Thats 51 very high powered shots without having to reload. Id probably fare pretty well dont ya think? BRING ON THE EFFIN ZOMBIES!!!!!!!
how about a flat top ar15 in 308 with a laser sight double mags.a colt 45 auto for a side arm.
@land_cruiser_73 let's see some pictures of that, sir.
an m240B is hard to beat for making a mess. I'm trying to design a .17 HMR gatlin gun powered by a cordless drill motor. carry thousands of rounds and cut stuff in half!
Seadog, I am with you. I really don't fit in this box. In my world, once they are dead, they stay that way. God knows I have worked on enough that we tried to bring back, but once they are really dead, they stay dead.
Mossberg 590 w/Knoxx Sidewinder
Medusa Mdl. 47
Mini 14
Cold Steel Katana
When I want to get rid of zombies, I just hit the off button on the TV remote control--they disappear like magic. (I know--I'm coloring outside the lines again--I'll go sit in the corner).
I'd have to go with a Saiga-12, lovingly modified to be fully auto by Alliance Armaments, and equipped with the Wraithmaker drum. Oh, and a s***load of frag-12 rounds.
I would use a reliable .22lr. Ammo is cheap and would be much easier to carry around larger amounts. It doesn't take much to get through a skull, a 22 would be just fine. A Remington 870, very little maintenance when compared to semi-autos and very reliable. 1911 or USP Compact as a side arm.
I would have to go with a hi-cap .45 also. Then a snubby Judge .45/.410 for close in head removal. I would want to have a good hi-cap pump with the speed feed gate to reload 5 at a time. And for reaching out down the block I would want a 7.62 SCAR with an underslung grenade laucher for good measure. How I would move quickly with all of the above is another story. Maybe I would take a hard back Hummer with a Ma Deuce on top?
Against a mob of zombies, perhaps resurrect some M9A1-7 flame throwers.
The AA12 would be my choice
