Carl T. Johnson helped found the Michigan Bear Hunters Association in 1946, and served as president of the group until he resigned in 1963 to serve on the Michigan Conservation Commission. He became chairman of the commission in 1967, and was still serving as commissioner when he wrote for Outdoor Life.
