Facebook Fallout - 28

A detective in East Palo Alto, Calif., is under fire after he allegedly encouraged fellow police officers in Facebook postings to shoot gun advocates who carry unloaded weapons in plain view as a political statement.

Detective Rod Tuason, apparently in response to a comment about open carry advocates with visible weapons sipping coffee at cafes in the San Francisco Bay area, suggested officers challenge the gun owners.

"Sounds like you had someone practicing their 2nd amendment rights last night!" Tuason wrote. "Should've pulled the AR out and prone them all out! And if one of them makes a furtive movement ... 2 weeks off!!!"

Tuason ridiculed how law-abiding gun owners can't get concealed carry permits. "Haha that's when you attend one of their meetings and laugh at them cuz they can only dream to have a ccw..." he wrote.

Unfortunately for Tuason, blogger and lawyer Kevin Thomason — a Second Amendment advocate — read his remarks, posted a screen grab of the thread and a link to Tuason's Facebook page.

Any officer of the law and elected politician who wants to get rid of citizens rights and shoot people for exercising their rights should lose their jobs and be put on trial. These people have become consumed by their desire of power and want to change our government and laws to accommodate their own beliefs. It seems like more politicians aren't listening to the people of this nation and its going to cause several issues within this great nation

This is just another example of why my opinion of policemen as a whole continues to diminish as I get older. There a lot of good cops out there, and I know some of them personally, but there are also a lot of hot-dogs, egotists, power trippers and racists. I can readily understand how constant contact with criminals can warp one's viewpoint, but in too many cases, the police tend to treat the general public as a bunch of would be perps who should be completely subservient to the boys in the P.D.
Captain, you are right on the money about everyone needing to protect themselves. That's the reason there's a pistol in my pocket as I sit here at the computer at my home. I don't fancy myself as some sort of gunslinger, but if I ever need this gun, I'll probably need it RIGHT NOW and not have time to go the gun safe to get it. Thanks to all of you for helping stand up for our second amendment rights and if you don't belong to the NRA, please join.

Detective Rod Tuason personal opinion was to kill innocent people. Yes, his opinion is quite different than mine; I don't condone killing innocent people. And yes he should loose his job and loose his 2nd Amendment rights. Why? Because he thinks it is okay to go around killing innocent people and that is an unstable mental condition.
Detective Rod Tuason is on a power trip and must think he is better than law-abiding citizens. Detective Rod Tuason finds it quite amusing on how law-abiding gun owners can't get concealed carry permits and believes he should attend there meetings and laugh at them on dreaming of getting a CCW. Evidently the only way Detective Rod Tuason could legally obtain a pistol was to join a police department.
I quess we will have to wait and see if Detective Rod Tuason gets fired and looses his firearm rights. One other thing we will wait on to see, if he carries out his threats to kill innocent people. By than it will be too late to take any preventive action against Detective Rod Tuason.

Regarding the sentiments of Officer Tuason, the one thing I am reminded of is the deal that went down in Washington DC (I can't remember how many years ago) where there were two or three women who were attacked by two to four men, beaten and raped repeatedly. They called 911 several times and police officers never responded. They did escape with their lives, but the horror of they went through will never leave them. Now, as I recall, the police in that case stated it was "not their duty to protect private citizens in cases like this, it was their duty to catch bad guys and put them away." Now, what this told me was that the police in Washington DC (a place where until recently you couldn't even OWN a gun!) felt their prime duty was chasing speeders, writing tickets, etc. Protecting people from vile and violent crime wasn't "their responsibility." Now, if other police around the country think that way, who is left to protect the citizen? The citizen, with the 2nd Amendment and a CCW. Tuason sounds to me like the cops in Washington DC. And, I imagine there are alot more like him. I'll take care of myself, by myself. They are going to arive after the damage is done anyway, and then try to catch the perps. Just the way I see it. Yeah, the guy should have failed his mental eval and at this point should not be allowed on the force or to own or carry guns.

The point I was trying to make is that instead of calling for his/her head each time an anti-hunter or anti-gun person expresses an opinion, it would be better to use the moment to teach anyone listening the merits of proper gun ownership and usage. After all, the purpose of open carry demonstration is not to make non-gun people mad, it is to win over those whose opinions are not yet solidified against us.

It is one thing for one of us to joke about that, shooting someone, for a sworn law enforcement officer to do so is disturbing to say the least. As stated above he has significant issues that cause me concern for the public safety when I learn he has access to weapons.
dneaster3, were you as adamant about people like Rush being given their Constitutional right when he was characterized as a racist and misquoted to get there, so he was denied part-ownership of a football team. Or Jimmy the Greek making his comment which was a true statement.
We must be vigilant about the people who are sworn to enforce the law. When they violate the precepts they are sworn to uphold, our society is more at risk than most people are aware.
We are living in a state of flux, most Americans do not understand what the Constitution means and are willing to accept whatever the libs say it means.
This speech was irresponsible and under the guidelines of his profession he violated any ethics code they have. He thought the act of shooting people was funny. He needs to lose any certification for law enforcement and not be allowed a CCW permit. Just my two cents.

Detective Rod Tuason needs to be removed from the police force, because he is a lunatic. He is also giving good police a bad name. Also, Detective Rod Tuason should be stripped of any firearms and void of any firearm ownership, because in his eyes it is okay to shoot people just because they are practicing a Constitutional right. Will Detective Rod Tuason want to shoot somebody just because they are practicing Freedom of Speech?
Another thing I find disturbing and mentally unstable about Detective Rod Tuason is he is encouraging other police officers to kill 2nd Amendment supporters who carry unloaded weapons. Can you believe that, an unloaded firearm? What a lunatic Detective Rod Tuason is.
It is funny how people in authority who have guns and are able to protect themselves think that others should not have the same opportunity.

I completely agree, however, that the police force is reactive, not proactive. That's how we like it. Few of us wants a police force that has the powers to actually watch every individual all the time in order to ensure thier safety. That's a scary amount of power. I'd be happy if we'd just do a better job of keeping violent offenders in jail once they've proven who they are, but that's not the police's fault.

Don't get me wrong Captain. A guy who wants to risk a bloodbath in a situation where people are exercising a legal right has no business on the police force. This is particularly true when his job is to enforce law, not make a statement about his beliefs. Everyone has a political view, but the law is the law. Now, there's always the chance it was an ill thought out, but joking comment made. Another hazard of social networking sites or blogs like this one is that what you say is out there for all to use. Jcarlin, I realize that you cannot judge the entire force based off of the stupidity of one individual.
However, this does nothing for my assessment of police officers.
I have never had a police officer around when I needed one, and at best one has responded 30 minutes after a situation played out. Furthermore, out of the various thefts/destruction of property cases I have reported, none have been resolved.
I have learned not to count on the police. In fact, I try to avoid any interaction with them if at all possible. Even the good officers have to deal with too much beuracracy to effect much law enforcement.
