Once again, it didn't take New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg long to exploit a failed terrorist attack to advance his own agenda.
Hizzoner was in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, May 5, lobbying Congress to adopt the “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2009” -- H.R. 2159 -- sponsored by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) and -- S. 1317 -- sponsored by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).
Of course, who can disagree with that? It sounds, as Bloomberg said, like "common sense" to deny those identified by the FBI as "dangerous terrorists" on its terror watchlist, the right to purchase firearms.
Unfortunately, as the NRA notes, this bill would do nothing to deny "dangerous terrorists" from legally purchasing firearms. What it would do, the NRA says, is "give the executive branch of the federal government the arbitrary power to stop loyal Americans from exercising their constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms."
Why?
Because, as Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told Bloomberg, many people on the FBI's watchlist don't belong there. The vast majority of people on that list are Americans with no criminal history, but who are outspoken critics of the government.
"None of us wants a terrorist to be able to purchase a gun, but neither should we want to infringe upon a Constitutional right of law-abiding Americans," Collins said.
The bill is an instrument of those who would ban guns altogether, said Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC). "We're talking about a constitutional right here," he said, explaining that he could not support a bill that would force "innocent Americans" to "pay the cost of going to court to get their gun rights back."

This law opens the door for an end around play. Here's how it would work. Once the law is passed, everyone in any gun registry would be placed on the terror watch list - effectively denying us our right to bear arms. Then, it is not about us having no ability to defend ourselves from terrorists but the inability to defend ourselves from our own tyranical gov't.....

Bloomberg has his head up his butt. Bloomberg wants people to think thousands of terrorist are going to come to the U.S.A. to buy guns legally and shoot us one by one dead. Terrorist aren't going to waste their time shooting Americans one at a time to be rid of us. The weapon of choice is a bomb for terrorist. Look at what attacks have been done on Americans here at home and abroad. Bombs or airplanes have been the weapons of terrorist. One bullet is not as affective as one bomb. Bloomberg pull your head out of your butt, the lack of oxygen has made your brain dead.
Gun control is about controlling Americans not terrorist.
Oh I know what to do!!! Lets take away the ability of Americans to defend themselves so we are easier targets for the terrorists. That way no one can stop them. We can just throw rocks at them while they walk down the street shooting us with their guns that they obtained illegally. Since we are law abiding citizens we won't have any of our own to defend ourselves with.#$$&*%*%$#&%^*!!!!
It is beyond me how anyone can believe this rhetoric! Now don't get me wrong. I'm all for taking guns from terrorist, but the way to do that is not passing a law that takes them away from law abiding citizens! That is counter productive. It's not ignorance on their part it is just plain stupidity. And there is no excuse for it! Period
So Bloomberg wants to deny American citizens the right to defend themselves? I can't believe it! NOT!! He is an opportunistic, power grabbing, bottom feeding liberal who believes the government, not the Constitution is where our right originate. Like all of the rest of his ilk, he needs to be voted out of office and sent to Iran, Venezuela, or Cuba where their policies are more in sync with those governments' policies. It would be nice if he decided to stay. I'll even donate a quarter for airfare.
