Bear covers, so prevalent in the beginning years of the magazine, largely disappear in the 1930’s but begin a comeback in the 1940’s that reaches its snarling peak in the next decade. Also in the 1940’s, Outdoor Life becomes the only outdoor magazine shipped overseas to GIs during World War II, and its covers pay tribute to the American soldier and the war effort throughout the war years.
