I must be getting old, because I’m nutty for gear bags. For the last seven or eight years, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time traveling to ATV and SxS races and press events all over the country. You can imagine the colossal pain in the neck it is to drag every piece of safety gear you could ever imagine needing, especially when those trips involve flying. I’ve sprinted through many airports like OJ Simpson in the old Hertz commercials (YouTube it), dragging numerous overweight gear bags in my roost. Through those experiences, I’ve found no bag finer than an Ogio. The company has a reputation for building some of the best high-end bags on the market, and I recently got the opportunity to test the new Ogio Rig 9800 LE.
Performance:
My Green Hive Ogio Rig 9800 LE and I are scheduled to log about 15,000 air miles traveling to different events across the country this summer. In preparation for those trips, I’ve been using the Rig for the last two months to cart my riding gear back and forth to my local riding spot. In the main compartment, the Rig 9800 easily swallowed my helmet, two pairs of goggles, a chest protector, riding boots, a riding jacket, a jersey, two knee braces, a Leatt neck brace and a pair of riding pants. There was plenty of space left over on the top LID portion of the bag to house a several day supply of street clothes, which will also be necessary for my travels. The rugged construction has proven very sturdy and I like the way the bag stands on its own, even when stuffed full and in the upright position.
Hits
– The LE model’s bright, bold design and colors make it easily identifiable in baggage pickup. Those colors also make it tougher for a thief to sneak away with my bag.
– Full of cavernous space.
– Telescoping pull handle makes it easy to go from towing the bag to stowing the bag.
– Molded legs allow the bag remain in the standing position, even when loaded.
Misses
– The bag is so spacious that it’s easily overloaded. I’m afraid this means lots of overweight baggage fees in my very near future.
– With an MSRP of $270, the Rig 9800 LE is pretty expensive. The basic Rig 9800 is not as fancy, but it’s nearly the same bag for less money.
