About
Sean Murphy is a contributing writer to Outdoor Life. He lives in the southeastern United States, wearing multiple hats as a sales and marketing professional within the firearms industry, as well as trainer/co-owner of SG Concepts by day, and wordsmith by night. As a dedicated student of firearms history, design and applications, he likes to take a deep-dive into the particularities of anything with a trigger that goes bang.
Experience
Murphy has been involved in the shooting sports industry as a competitor, trainer, retailer, and working for manufacturers in a variety of sales and marketing roles since 2006. He is an adult-onset hunter, avidly learning and enjoying the craft since 2016 after his first whitetail hunt. He has freelanced for a variety of publications and began contributing to Outdoor Life at the annual Gun Test in 2022. Considered an SME in many aspects of shooting and firearms, he is an avid shooter and force to be reckoned with in precision rifle, field-match, and team competitions. In the past he has held a Grand Master classification in USPSA, shot with the US F-Class Team in the Creedmoor Cup, and competed in a wide-variety of disciplines. He has trained civilians and professional shooters alike, including those from US Special Operations Command, federal and state law enforcement, and the Army Marksmanship Unit.
Education
Murphy has a BBA in Accounting and Finance from North Georgia College & State University, which is now useful for calculating bullet trajectories as well as crunching data.
