The first Jeff Cooper Commemorative 1911 was donated to the newly formed Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation, created by the family for the purpose of preserving, housing and displaying his various collections (weapons, art, library, personal papers and memorabilia as well as his writing) and providing scholarships for firearms training in the Cooper tradition. This is a one-year program that will run until September 25, 2008 (the second anniversary of Cooper’s death). Features of the Jeff Cooper Commemorative include an Ed Brown premium match-grade barrel and solid steel bushing for accuracy, a hand-fitted forged frame and slide, lowered and flared ejection port for improved ejection, a polished feedramp and hand-fit extractor and ejector to ensure ammo feed and a memory-groove beavertail grip safety for a higher and deeper grip to reduce felt recoil and improve natural pointing ability. Jeff Cooper’s signature is engraved on the ejection port side on the slide. The right hand side of the slide is inlayed “DVC“ in 24-carat solid gold. DVC stands for Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas (Accuracy, Power, Speed), the motto of IPSC. The model also boasts a three-hole style long aluminum trigger and exhibition-grade cocobolo smooth grips with the engraved Jeff Cooper logo of the pen and sword.
A leather-bound copy of Cooper’s Principles of Personal Defense will be included with every gun, which will cost $2,295. A portion of the proceeds from the Jeff Cooper Commemorative 1911 will be donated to the Foundation by Ed Brown Products, Inc.
