Hunting

Top Hunting Apps for the iPhone

Two new iPhone hunting apps have topped the charts in the iTunes' Sports Category - Deer Tactics & Calls and iSolunar Hunting & Fishing Times.

iSolunar is a solunar tables calculator that provides users with the best hunting times and best fishing times for any date and location. Using the GPS feature of the iPhone, iSolunar extracts location-specific astronomical data from the US Naval Observatory to provide precise peak feeding / activity periods for the chosen location. A newly added feature includes a Trophy Room where users can save pictures and data from their trip and provides the ability to share directly to Facebook or via email.

Deer Tactics & Calls provides 12 of the most effective deer calls and sounds with tips and tactics on how and when to use each one. The app also features a Rut Calendar with dates and descriptions of the different phases of the whitetail deer rut.

Visit http://i-solunar.com and http://deer-tactics.com for more information.

ATTENTION ALL PENNSYLVANIA HUNTERS!!!!!

Check out "HT BIG GAME" this app rules.
I heard about this new app that just came out and it has multiple USEABLE features like a daily seasonal calendar for deer, bear and turkey. A completely official harvest reporting system that is super fast and easy to use. There is even a build in GPS that lets you change views and drop pins with notes. I called the maker and guy told me a new update will be coming before the season starts that will let the app run even when you have no service. It costs a couple bucks but the best part is everything is included. No annoying ads or hidden upgrade fees. Here is the itunes link.

As we are talking about top hunting apps, I would like to recommend iHunt Journal. It is an all-in-one hunting app - it manages all your hunting memories plus it allows you to research and plan your hunts. You can record your hunts, trophies, game observations, and hunting stand locations. Adding the latest shot or observation is done within seconds. Whether your focus is on planning your next hunt based on weather and solunar periods, keeping a trophy gallery and hunting journal, or statistics and research of your past hunts, this is the application you need.

Wind Gauge and Compass

Wind Vane is an iPhone application that uses the phones GPS to show actual wind direction and speed from NOAA. Regardless of where you are or which way you are facing, the gauge will show you which direction the wind is coming from and at what strength - important to stay ahead of your game. The application is only .99 cents and I think it would be well worth it to know the current wind conditions when hunting.

Here is a link with screen shots and more info on the application.

There is another new iphone app that I'm using now. It allows hunters to share information and track wildlife on their hunts. Hunters can set their hunt location, report wildlife during their hunt, see what other hunters are reporting via a map, and communicate via hunter messages. The app makes no sound and will never spook any game.
